One of my favourite martial artists is Paul Vunak. His expertise is in the area of real life combat (as opposed to sport mixed martial arts) so he gets to the point and keeps things simple and devastating! The following Paul Vunak video clips offer an insight into his philosophy and training methods.
Keep things simple
In this video clip Paul Vunak talks about keeping your techniques simple. No need to memorise 25 sequences for each hold, just do what it takes to create enough time for you to escape. This is an invaluable philosophy for real life self defense.
Smooth, fast and devastating
I’ve added this clip to demonstrate how smooth and fast Paul Vunak is in his movements.
People have questioned the use of a head butt in a real life encounter. The head weighs the same as an average bowling ball. Head butting someone is like thrusting a bowling ball into their face!
Also note that Vunak teaches executing the head butt with the top of the head, not the forehead as most people think.
Is a head butt effective? You can make the decision for yourself.
